Half Marathons, and playing, and pasta

This morning, Adam, Katie and I ventured into DC to see Mary Alice (Katie's godmother) run her first half-marathon.  Mary Alice ran the race as a part of the Team in Training program to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  Her friend, Cheryl, is in remission after battling Hodgkin's Lymphoma.  Mary Alice is NOT someone who even remotely enjoyed running or running-based sports growing up, so this was really exciting to see her tackle something so outside of her usual comfort zone.  More impressively, she ran negative splits for all her 5K's and finished just under 2 hours!  She also raised just under $3000!  Way to go, MAH!
Katie, looking at the heart with "Boston" on it

Mama Hewitt and MAH

By the end of the time together, Katie had realized that Aunt Mary Alice is more than just the excited face on the ipad.  Since MAH lives in Boston, we do a lot of video chats :-)

What an awesome finisher's medal!  Well played, Nike Women's Half Marathon!

Katie was rather excited about the empty water bottle.  Whatever keeps ya happy, kid.

After our time at the finish line, we went over to the ellipse (think big grassy area where the national xmas tree is each winter) so Katie could have some run-around time.

Mommy did her hair all nice and off her face today!  She also thought the chain fence was a swing...

Running around with Daddy!

It was just about lunch and nap time, so we went back to the car.  We had parked above Carmine's, an Italian, Family-Style restaurant where Mom's friend Dana works.  We got to have lunch, catch-up with Dana, and we were in the car in-time for nap time!
